Meet the Chief

Sir William Murray Jardine of Applegirth
24th Chief of the Clan Jardine

Sir William Murray Jardine is the 13th Baronet of Applegirth, Dumfriesshire and the 24th Chief of the Jardine Clan. He is married to Gemma and has two sons, Alexander and Henry. He is the son of Mary Beatrice Cross and Sir Alexander Maule Jardine of Applegirth, 12th Baronet, from whom succeeded in 2008.

Born in Dumfries, William spent his first few months at Little Dyke in Lockerbie, before moving to Stonehaven as the previous chief was studying Agriculture at Aberdeen University. Then at around 4 years old, he moved to the Lake District, where he still lives today. It was here that his love of the outdoors was established.

William attended the local primary school in Thwaites, Cumbria before moving to Chetwynde in Barrow-Furness. From here he went to Strathallan, an independent boarding school in Perthshire.​​  He then studied at United Kingdom Sailing Association (UKSA) in Cowes and Outdoor Education at the University of Cumbria in Ambleside, where he met his wife, Gemma.

Being a husband, father, recently retired community firefighter, a founder of Cumbria Solar Solutions and Clan Chief, among other things, keep him busy.

Since taking on the great honour of becoming the Clan Chief of the Jardine Clan, William has been keen to connect to clan members round the world as much as he can and upholding the founding principles of the Jardine Clan Society.
